When You Start A New Business, You Don’t’ Think About Payroll

When you start a brand-new business, you only have one thing on your mind and that is gaining customers. If you don’t quickly start to gain customers, your pet project will never get off the ground. Indeed, some businesses never do really get off the ground and grind to a halt after a few months.

But assuming that you do get off the ground and start to gain traction, there is going to come a point at which you need to take on an employee to carry out this or that function, and as soon as you do that you are knee-deep in all sorts of legislation that you have probably never given a thought to. Straight away, you are involved with payroll. Up until that day, payroll has never bothered you because, in many instances, you may have been working for another company and you were on the receiving end of it.

But suddenly, you have to run it. You may also immediately have to enrol your employee in your company pension scheme. You know, that company pension scheme that you haven’t got! Well now the law says that you do have to have one.

Allright, you may be able to deal with this if you just have one employee. But, hey, you are expanding your business, right? You are not going to stop at just one employee.

This Is Where It Gets Complicated

This is where payroll – and the auto-enrol pension scheme – can start to get very complicated, especially if you have, for instance, a couple of salesmen who earn commission and whose pay is therefore going to be different every month. You may also have people who work overtime, and the same thing applies. You can have staff who get certain benefits, and although they are on exactly the same pay scale as another staff member get paid a greater or lesser amount.

Oh yes, the more employees you have the more complex your payroll becomes, and we’ll bet you didn’t think of all this when you opened your business.

This is why so many SMEs use payroll companies in London such as ourselves at PayCheck. We have been in the business since 1996 and are today recognised as one of the foremost payroll companies in London.

No matter how big or small, or how complex, your payroll is, at PayCheck we can do everything for you, including making payments direct to your employees through BACS, tax documents, payments to HMRC, and also run the pension scheme that you haven’t yet got!
